Essential Tools for Creative Artists

If you or someone you know is an aspiring artist, check out our useful tools list to get an idea of the tools that are an essential part of every artists’ work space.

Graphite Pencils

One of the most basic essential tools. You can choose between the wooden and mechanical types. Both are available in different colors, varieties, and qualities that allows you to pick the one that best suits your needs.

Pens

Some creative artists prefer using pens in creating their masterpiece. These are also available in different colors, varieties, and qualities.

Putty Erasers

Perfect for removing graphite from almost any surface type. There are also erasers that have been specifically manufactured for use with pens. Make sure that you have both types on hand.

Sketchbooks and sketchpads

Sketchbooks and sketchpads come in different sizes and paper quality. Beginners often choose to draft their ideas on sketchpads since this is usually cheaper compared to the sketchbook.

Canvas boards

Available in all sizes at your local art supply shop. If you need a different size than the readily available sizes, inquire with your art supply shop representative on how you can have one custom made for you.

Watercolor papers

An essential tool to have if you love using watercolor as your art medium. The paper is specifically designed for use with watercolors.

Brushes

The shape, size, and quality can depend on your preference. It might take awhile for you to find the best brush that works for you.

Paints

Choose from a wide assortment of acrylics, oils, watercolor, or ink paints.
